The building was built in 1894 by Alonzo Ward. The facility houses the Roma, Crystal Ballroom, Tuscany Room and a women's boutique along with a film studio. We also feature Condominiums on the upper floors.
The original 1894 Ward Hotel burned to the ground in 1926 and in 1928 Alonzo R. Ward rebuilt it. Some 76 years later; in 2004 Blackstone Developers LLC restored the facility as a part of the Blackstone's downtown restoration project. Ninety of the original hotel rooms were converted into fifteen luxury condominiums on floors 3-6. The original restaurant, coffee shop, lobby and commercial spaces were all restored as well.
On the second floor, the Ward Plaza's Crystal Ballroom with the original Crystal Chandeliers was fully restored. The Crystal Ballroom also boasts the only wooden dance floor in town. One of the major draws of business to The Ward Plaza and Downtown Event Center are the wedding ceremonies, receptions, and all kinds of special occasions.
The Ward Plaza Downtown Event Center has many facets with something for everyone. The Tuscany Room is available for smaller more intimate gatherings of 60 or less; such as rehearsal dinners and private parties.
The Crystal Ballroom is the only one of its kind in the area. It is the perfect wedding venue and has hosted many receptions, many special occasion events including dances, corporate meetings, holiday parties and retreats, as well as concerts. Visit us on Facebook by clicking here.

the Crystal Ballroom
The Crystal Ballroom is the only one of its kind in the area. It's hosted many weddings, receptions, dances and corporate meetings. It's been fully restored with original crystal chandeliers and boasts the only wooden dance floor in town.
My family had the wedding reception for our daughter at the Ward on June 8, 2013. She'd attended a wedding there while still in high school, and had dreamed of having her reception there since that day.
We had several meetings with Melissa prior to the wedding. There was some disruption our expectation midway through the planning, when the Ward divested itself of the restaurant portion of the organization and we then had to make alternate catering plans. That also caused some concern about the overall pricing for the venue, and everything else that entailed. However, Melissa worked extensively with us to accommodate our wishes, our budget, and her bottom line.
The day of the wedding could not have been more perfect. Not only did the banquet and ballroom look magical, everything we had hoped for had come to pass. With the aid of the decorator Melissa recommended, my daughter said that she had not only gotten the wedding of her dreams, but there were aspects she hadn't even known she wanted that facilitated the illusion of perfection. Virtually all of our guests were from out of town, the bulk of them from the East Coast who regularly experience the finest venues available. They raved about everything about the Ward, from it's beauty, it's history, and it's service.
I cannot say enough about the service we received. Melissa and her staff...which consisted of her son and her husband...worked tirelessly throughout the evening, unobtrusively, but omnipresent, making sure all was running smoothly. They even collected all the wedding gifts and moved them to the room downstairs they reserved for us to use the next morning to meet and open them.
Their service and help made the entire event a joy. A wedding is usually a wonderful time, but I have been to many that have been marred by stress or frustration because of some minor glitch. We have discussed this many times, with many of our friends and relatives, since the wedding, and universally everyone has had a glow about how great it was. I have had many comments about how my daughter, the bride, and I, the bride's mother, seemed so calm and stress-free throughout the whole weekend. There is a simple answer: because of the work and professionalism of the Ward, the bride and I were allowed to be guests at her own wedding.
